Hello Isabell, this is such a great project! I'm a peruvian architect based in Germany, also researching on food. Let's talk!

Food is an important part of a balanced diet

Isabell Olsson

In the grocery stores today we are faced with lots of products, good and bad. Often it is difficult to know what to choose and can feel tricky to try something new. The decisions we make are often subconscious and are associated with old habits or lack of knowledge.

My conviction is that more and more people today want to make the "right" decision to eat healthier food for themselves and for animals and nature, but it is still incredibly difficult to know WHERE and HOW to start.

Right here I position myself and my project in the context of the annual context theme "kommit to conflict".

In that the search for information on how and what to eat in order to be sustainable, can often feel overwhelming and difficult. As an individual to be able to make healthy and sustainable decisions fitting to their own lifestyle.

With my project, I want to put together the mechanisms and logic in a system that is direct, easily accessible and, above all, adapted to the individual level. Where I can consciously and precisely share with me knowledge, tips and recipes to minimize the effort for the individual self in his/her decision making. To influence and inform people about sustainable food alternatives and a more conscious lifestyle and with that I wish to reach to change intrinsic motivation in people.

Can I, as a designer, by recording and individually influencing nutrition and consumption habits, change the intrinsic motivation in people, with an interactive app solution?

In my exhibit I want to show a graphical summary of the process in my work, where I describe where the motivation comes from for my idea, where I try to analyze parts of my research, demonstrate the methods I have used and clarify my own personal learnings so far in my process.

I want to offer the opportunity to try on a very simplified model of my idea.

Every decision we make will eliminate another different opportunity and I want to demonstrate this through a quiz.

By answering some simple questions about your behavior, you are assigned a stereotypical personal profile, and you then get tips and tricks tailored just for that profile.

The idea is very different from the final product I wish to create, but through this amusing graphic image I wish to arouse your interest and curiosity.

I made an experiment and took this quiz into the real world. Setting it up a in a public space and performing it IRL with people passing by I was able to get instant feedback on my work and valuable insights where made. The quiz players where sometimes confused and most where entertained by the stereotypical personalities they were given. The participants were also really thankful for the tips and I will stay in contact with a given few to see if they could follow through with some and if it somehow made a sustainable change in their lives.

If you want to, check out the video of the performance and complete the “stereotypical food consumption quiz” yourself. Use the tips and let me know about your process!

Food, health and sustainability are not only right in time, it is necessary things. We must all contribute to making a sustainable change now! This is why my project has come to be really important to me and I would always appreciate your thoughts, feedback and input on the topic, my idea and my process.

Love to hear from you!

Write me in my Guestbook.
